VANCOUVER — The RCMP said Monday they have arrested the man suspected of shooting at a Mountie before stealing her gun in downtown Vancouver.
The incident in Vancouver was one of five separate shootings across British Columbia on Sunday.
Police say the suspect in the shooting of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer was arrested Monday morning.
An investigation had been ongoing into a drive-by shooting on Saturday in which a man was injured outside the Vancouver Art Gallery. Several hours later, police say two Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers were shot as they were making their way through downtown Vancouver. The officers were able to return fire and return fire, with two of the bullets striking the assailant.

A shooter also fired shots at police Sunday in the Wheatley area of Penticton, about 100 kilometres northeast of Vancouver. It was the first reported shooting in the city.
British Columbia’s Peace Arch National Park saw shots fired Sunday night near the Osoyoos River. It is the same area where a warning was issued after a bomb threat was received early Sunday, according to B.C. RCMP. There were no reports of injury.
The evening shooting came shortly after two Calgary men were killed in a knife attack at an Indonesian resort, sparking the Canadian province’s own spate of violence.
RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki told the CBC that the motive behind Sunday’s string of shootings is not yet known.
“You’re dealing with a big town on a busy day, and it is a violent event,” Lucki said. “We’re certainly treating this as terrorism, but we’re not drawing that to any specific conclusion.”
Earlier this month, a 21-year-old man was charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of a B.C. man in the city of Surrey. On Saturday, four more men were arrested in connection with a stabbing at a Vancouver apartment building.
Vancouver is about 100 kilometres north of Calgary, the site of Canada’s deadliest mass shooting earlier this year. On July 22, gunman Stephen Paddock opened fire on a crowd at a country music festival in the city, killing 58 people and wounding almost 500.
Nova Scotia police on Sunday released the name of the 44-year-old man fatally shot in Sydney in the province’s lower Mainland.
