Few sports fans have heard of the Odudu brothers. Most know who Joshua is — the slam dunk master and hype man for the Duke Blue Devils. But Oluji, Oluibamemi’s younger brother, and Jonah — Ben Simmons’ childhood friend at Whitehouse — are less well known. That’s all about to change, as AJ Odudu gets engaged, and Oluji and Jonah are set to appear on an upcoming episode of ESPN’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel.”
During the show, we discover that Oluji and Jonah have been dating for a few months. Jonah also tells his brother that he “knows he’s meant for something.” AJ, playing the role of concerned and protective older brother, seems somewhat distraught. The cameras make note of Oluji and Jonah’s good relationship — they come to the house for dinner parties and are cute together, despite Oluji coming from a large extended family and Jonah being the big brother. But when AJ tells his mother she “just doesn’t understand him,” viewers cringe at the implication that Oluji has feelings for his sibling. The siblings seem to be able to move on and remain friends, but nevertheless, we can’t help but wonder whether this is a serious development.
Not everyone is as shocked, though.
JJ Brown, the younger brother of NBA legend Bill, recently opened up to the “Real Sports” crew about the younger Odudu brothers dating, and got pretty mushy.
“I’m extremely proud of AJ for letting him in on his secret, but even more so for letting us all know he has a big sister that’s really proud of him,” JJ said. “I feel like these kids can make him blossom in so many different ways, not just by introducing him to a girl that he likes but letting him go in that direction and just be the best he can be… I think that she’s going to become the most great sister of all time.”
